When I just started crocheting, I aimed to crochet something that can be used in school setting, such as cases and bag. I ended up crocheting lots of book covers as most of my friends using a standardized hard covered book during school.
The second thing that I was intrigued the most was amigurumi! They are cuties! It was like everywhere over the internet back in 2011, and it still remains popular until now. My first amigurumi project was crocheting a white colored love.
And there are a lot of popular crochet projects that I still wanted to learn.
The 5 most popular things to crochet are hats, flowers, amigurumi, tops and coasters. Most of them are easy to crochet and may varies according to its complexity. They exist in many designs and patterns, making it fun to experiment with new pattern and crochet techniques.
Hats
Other than hats, you can try crochet other headwear such beanies, headbands, scrunchies and bandana. Those patterns are easily found in the internet for both free and paid version.
Flowers
Crochet flowers are lately popular as they are cute to make. They are often presented in bouquet like this picture!
I’ve seen flower appliques, sunflower, tulips, lavendar, roses, peonies and many more.

Amigurumi
Amigurumi are the cutest!
Amigurumi is a Japanese art of crocheting plushies. There are a lot of amigurumi animals, dolls, even pokemons like in the picture!
They are so adorable to make. Suitable to be given to children below 3, depending on the type of yarns. I always amazed how people crochet the big amigurumi so that they can snuggle the big amigurumi during their bedtime! Cozy, warm and lovely.
Tops
I rarely make tops as I live in Malaysia, a hot and humid country. Hence, crocheted tops are most likely not applicable for me. But I always thinking to make summer crochet tops to be worn in office setting and hangout with friends.
Other than tops, you can explore on crocheted dresses, cardigans and pullovers.
Coasters
Coasters are small and quick to be made. And they are lovely to be used as home decoration.
